The Lupercalia was a well-known celebration in the ancient city of Rome. In the middle of February the fertility and cleansing ceremony was conducted. Priests offered sacrifices of animals at the altar for the Lapis Nuiger at the time of the ceremony. The blood of the animal was poured into the hearth. It was believed that it would benefit the grain crops by ensuring fertility and securing the crops from damage.
Ludi Ceriales is another celebration that was held in honor Ceres the goddess of harvest. Ludi Ceriales celebrations were first recorded in the year 202 BC.
