Despite being a federal holiday, not all states observe the holiday in all states. While some states recognize both the presidents birthdays on the same day while other states only honor one. Presidents Day is now generally celebrated as a time to honor all U.S. presidents, especially Lincoln.

It has had a complex history. Washington’s Birthday was the first reason for the name for this holiday.

Washington’s birthday, more commonly referred to as Washington’s Day, is an unofficial holiday that is well-known. It was recognized as an official holiday of the United States Congress in the latter 1870s. This led to Congress adopted the Uniform Monday Holiday Act.

Meteor storms

Each year, the Earth’s orbit revolves around the sun. Small, tiny meteors are released into space. They are visible everywhere. Some showers are more spectacular than others. The best time for viewing them is in the evening.

Roman holiday celebrations in antiquity

The Lupercalia was a Roman holiday that was loved by many. A ritual of cleansing and fertility was performed in February. Priests offered animal sacrifices on an altar close to the Lapis Niger during the ritual. The hearth was filled with blood of the animal. It was believed to be beneficial for fertility of the fields of grain.

Ludi Ceriales, another celebration was dedicated to Ceres. Ludi Ceriales celebrations are documented as far back as the year 202 BC.

Neptunalia was among the most popular Roman festivities. These celebrations were originally held in honor of Mars, a god of war.

Roman workweeks were eight days long. Every day was divided into two parts: morning or afternoon. A nundin was an eight-day collection, the rest of the year comprised of 29 days.
