Storms of Meteors

Roman holiday celebrations in antiquity
The Lupercalia was a Roman holiday that was loved by many. In the middle of February the fertility and cleansing ceremony was held. Priests offered animal sacrifices at an altar next to the Lapis Niger during the rite. Blood from the animal was poured into the hearth. It was believed to be beneficial for the fertility of the fields of grain.
Ludi Ceriales was another celebration to pay tribute to Ceres (the harvest goddess). Ludi Ceriales celebrations were first documented in 202 BC.
Other famous Roman celebrations are Neptunalia, Saturnalia and Vestalia. These were originally held to honour Mars, the god of war.Vestalia According to certain experts is the most popular among the three.
Roman workweeks ran for eight days. Each day had two sections: morning and afternoon. The nundin was a collection of eight days. the remaining 29 days comprised the remainder of the year.
