Online Calendar March 2023 – Many enjoyable holidays are planned for February, and they are all celebrated during the month. The most well-known celebrations are Presidents’ Day. Groundhog Day, Valentine’s Day and meteor Showers. There are many more Roman celebrations that take place on different dates.
February 14th
Valentine’s Day celebrates love and love every February 14. The Middle Ages are the time when Valentine’s Day first celebrated. This is a time when courtly love as well as ceremonies were still popular.
It was the day to celebrate romance between romantic partners and lovers in the fourteenth century. Valentine’s Day was a day when it was customary for lovers and friends to send gifts, flowers and cards.
In the beginning of the 19th century commercial cards were made easily available. Postcards that were printed in bulk gained popularity. These themed displays were put up in stores.
Valentine’s Day traditions include buying your loved one a sweet or chocolate gift along with a bouquet of flowers or a card. You could also choose to give them a gift of jewelry.
February 2nd.
Groundhog Day occurs annually on February 2. Groundhog Day is celebrated each year in Canada on February 2.
The belief in the superstition of Pennsylvanians Dutch people led to the celebration. However, the practice of making weather predictions was introduced to the United States with German immigration. Punxsutawney Phil, a groundhog from Pennsylvania provides meteorological predictions for the remainder of winter.
The tradition was born after scientists discovered an animal that was hibernating in the winter. The idea was to predict the following six weeks of season using observations about the way that animals reacted.
Groundhogs belong to the Sciuridae category of hairy mammals. In winter, their principal goal is to hibernate. On the morning of Groundhog Day, they are often seen peeking out of their burrows.
Christmas Day
Presidents Daylight (third Monday of February) is a national holiday. The holiday honors the previous American presidents. It was a time to pay tribute to both Lincoln and Washington.
Although it is a federal holiday , not all states observe it. While some states celebrate both the presidents birthdays on the same day as others while other states only honor one. Although Presidents’ day is now common this holiday allows us to remember the names of all U.S. presidents and especially Lincoln.
It has had a complicated background. Washington’s Birthday was the first name given to the celebration. Today, it’s called Presidents Day.
Washington’s Birthday, commonly known as Washington’s Day, is an not a holiday recognized by the government but is widely known. It was declared a federal holiday in late 1870s. Congress passed the Uniform Monday holiday Act.
Meteors hurling storms
Every year it is observed that the Earth orbits around the sun. This triggers a rush of small meteors that are released into space. They are visible almost everywhere in the sky. Certain showers are more spectacular in comparison to others. It is generally recommended to watch the showers at night.
Perseids are one of the most impressive and spectacular meteor showers that occur throughout the entire year. It is because of the comet 109P/Swift Tuttle. It will be visible from Northern Hemisphere. But, because the Southern Hemisphere is home to some of the most spectacular fireballs, it makes sense to observe the phenomenon from there.
Each year , there are four meteor showers that are significant. Number one is the Quadrantid. Its short , but massive peak is what makes it the most well-known. The Lyrid, another, is renowned for its peculiar surges. Furthermore the Geminid is known for its sexy appearance.
Roman holidays in antiquity
The Lupercalia was a Roman festival, which was loved by many. A fertility and cleansing ceremony was held in mid February. Priests offered sacrifices of animals at the altar for the Lapis Nuiger at the time of the ceremony. The hearth was filled with the blood of the animal. The grain fields were believed to benefit from its protection and fertility.
Ludi Ceriales, another celebration was dedicated to Ceres. Since the year 202 BC, Ludi Ceriales celebrations have been recorded.
Other famous Roman celebrations are Neptunalia, Saturnalia and Vestalia. These celebrations were originally held to honor Mars, the godof war.
Roman working weeks had eight days. Each day consisted of two parts: the morning or afternoon. Nundin was an eight-day collection, the rest of the year being comprised of 29 days.
