Punxsutawney Phil Groundhog, a groundhog from Pennsylvania, makes meteorological predictions for the remainder of winter.
This custom was born from an observation by scientists that mouse hibernates during winter. The idea was to forecast the six weeks ahead by studying the way animals react to weather conditions.
Groundhogs are part of the Sciuridae tribe of small, hairy mammals. It is hibernates through winter. Groundhog Day mornings are a perfect time to see them peering from their burrows.
Christmas Day
Presidents Daylight, which falls on the third Monday of February, is considered to be an official holiday of the United States. The holiday honors to the previous American presidents. The Presidents’ Day holiday was typically a day of celebration to honor Lincoln and Washington.
Although it is an official holiday, not all states observe it. Some states recognize both presidents, while others are only allowed to recognize only one. The Presidents’ Day holiday is now widely recognized as a day to honor all U.S. Presidents, especially Lincoln.
There is a long and complicated story that explains Presidents Day. Washington’s Birthday was the original name for the holiday that is now referred to as Presidents’ Day.
An unofficial holiday that is well-known was Washington’s birthday, often called Washington’s Day. It was officially recognized as a federal holiday in the late 1870s. In the end, Congress adopted the Uniform Monday Holiday Act.
Meteors hurling storms

Roman holidays that date back to antiquity
The Lupercalia was an ancient Roman festival that was adored by many. A ritual of cleansing and fertility was held in mid February. During the ceremony, priests offered animal sacrifices on an altar close to the Lapis Niiger. The hearth was saturated with the blood of the animal. The belief was that this would benefit crop by increasing fertility and also protecting the crops from damage.
Ludi Ceriales was another celebration to honor Ceres the goddess of harvest. Ludi Ceriales celebrations are documented as far back as 202 BC.
Neptunalia was among the most popular Roman celebrations. These celebrations were originally held in honor of Mars, a god of war.
The Roman workweek was 8 days long. There were two phases to each day, the morning part as well as the evening. A nundin consisted of eight days. The rest of the year was made up by the remaining 29 days.
