The origins of Presidents’ Day is a bit tangled. The Washington’s Birthday was the initial name of the day’s celebration. Today the Presidents’ Day holiday is the official title.

Washington’s birthday, more commonly referred to as Washington’s Day, is an not a holiday recognized by the government but is widely known. It was recognized as an official holiday of the United States Congress in the 1870s. The Uniform Monday Holiday Act was passed by Congress.
