The American tradition of creating forecasts for weather was introduced to America by German immigration. Punxsutawney Phil is a Pennsylvania groundhog that makes predictions for the rest of winter.

Scientists discovered that a mouse went into hibernation in winter. The idea was to forecast the weather for the remaining six weeks, by observing how animals respond to it.

Groundhogs belong to the Sciuridae, a small family of hairy mammals. In winter, their main goal is to hibernate. On the morning of Groundhog Day, they are often seen looking out of their burrows.

Presidents’ Daylight is regarded as a national holiday on the third Monday in February. It honors former American presidents. It is a day to honour both Lincoln and Washington.

It’s a national holiday which not all states observe even though it is one. While some states recognize both the presidents birthdays on the exact same day however, some states only recognize one. While Presidents’ Day is now common however, it is a good opportunity to commemorate the names of all U.S. presidents and especially Lincoln.

It has a long story. The Washington’s Birthday was the first name of the celebration. Today, Presidents’ day is the official title.

Washington’s birthday is an incredibly well-known and unofficial holidaythat is also known as Washington’s Day. But it became a recognized as a federal holiday in the 1870s. Congress approved the Uniform Monday Day Holiday Act.

Meteor showers

Perseids are the most powerful and beautiful meteor showers of the year. This is because Comet 109P/Swift Tuttle created it. While it’s visible in the Northern Hemisphere because of its massive fireworks, the Southern Hemisphere also has the best visibility.

There are four major meteor showers each year. The Quadrantid 1 is well-known for its explosive but brief peak. Another is the Lyrid. It’s famous for the odd surges it produces. The Geminid is famous for its casual appearance.

Roman holidays in antiquity

The Lupercalia was a major holiday in ancient Rome. A ritual of cleansing and fertility were held in the middle February. Priests offered animal sacrifices on the altar to the Lapis Nuiger during the ceremony. The hearth was filled with the blood of the animal. The protection and fertility of the blood is believed to be beneficial to the grain fields.

Ludi Ceriales was another celebration to honor Ceres the goddess of harvest. Ludi Ceriales celebrations were first recorded in the year 202 BC.

Neptunalia, Saturnalia, Vestalia were just a few examples of the most well-known Roman celebrations. These celebrations were originally intended to honor Mars as the god of war.

Roman workweeks lasted eight days. Each day was divided into two sections: morning and afternoon. Nundin was an 8-day collection, with the remainder of the year comprised of 29 days.
