March April 2023 Calendar – Numerous fun holidays are planned in February and are observed during the month. A few examples include Valentine’s Day or Groundhog Day, Presidents’ Day, Groundhog Day or meteor showers. There are also a variety of old Roman celebrations that take place on different days.
February 14th
Valentine’s Day (February 14th) is a day to celebrate the love and passion of a person. It is celebrated each year. The Middle Ages are the time that Valentine’s Day was first observed. It was a time when courtly love as well as ceremonies were still popular.
It was thought to be the celebration of romance between romantically connected friends from the fourteenth-century. Valentine’s Day was the day to send one another gifts, flowers and even cards.
In the early 19th century, commercial card were made easily available. The popularity of postcards printed in bulk was also growing. These cards were popularized in retail stores as themed displays.
Valentine’s Day traditions include buying your beloved a chocolate or chocolate present , along with a flower or card. You could even decide to gift them jewelry.
February 2nd.
Groundhog Day falls on February 2. Although it is a popular holiday in Canada the Thanksgiving holiday is an American holiday.
The belief in the superstition of Pennsylvanians Dutch people contributed to the festival. The American custom of making forecasts for weather was introduced to America through German immigration. PunxsutawneyPhil is a Pennsylvania groundhog that makes meteorological predictions throughout the winter.
Scientists discovered that a mouse was able to hibernate during winter. It was designed to predict the coming six weeks by studying the way animals react to the weather.
Groundhogs belong to the Sciuridae group of hairy mammals. In winter, their primary purpose is to go into hibernation. Groundhog Day is a common day on which they are seen peering out from their burrows.
Christmas Day
The third Monday of February, President’s Daylight is recognized as a national holiday. The holiday honors the previous American presidents. The Presidents Day holiday has served as a day to honor both Lincoln and Washington.
It is a federal holiday which not all states observe, despite it being one. Some states recognize both presidents, while other states are limited to only one. The Presidents’ Day holiday is widely regarded as a time to celebrate the achievements of all U.S. presidentials, particularly Lincoln.
The story of Presidents’ Day is complex. The Washington’s Birthday was the original title of the holiday, which is now known as Presidents’ Day.
Washington’s birthday is an incredibly well-known and not officially recognized holiday, as well as Washington’s Day. In the latter half of 1870s it became a national holiday. The Uniform Monday Holiday Act was approved by Congress.
Storms of Meteors
Each year, Earth moves around the sun. Each year, small meteors are released into space. They can be observed all over the sky. Certain showers are more spectacular then others. The best time to view them is at night.
The Perseids meteor shower is one of the most impressive and largest of all meteor showers. This is due to the fact that Comet 109P/SwiftTuttle is the culprit. While it is not seen from the Northern Hemisphere due to the high rates of fireballs in the Southern Hemisphere, it is worthwhile to observe from that area.
Every year, there are four major meteor showers. The Quadrantid one is famous for its powerful but short peak. One of the most notable for its distinctive surges is The Lyrid. The Geminid is famous for its sexy appearance.
Roman holidays from antiquity
The Lupercalia is among the most well-known holidays of the ancient city of Rome. A fertility and cleansing ceremony were held in the middle February. Priests offered animal sacrifices at the altar to the Lapis Nuiger during the ceremony. The hearth was then cleansed of blood from the animal. It was believed that the hearth would provide fertile soil and protect the grain fields.
Ludi Ceriales, another celebration was held to honor of Ceres the goddess of harvest. Ludi Ceriales celebrations are documented as far back as 202 BC.
Other famous Roman celebrations include Neptunalia, Saturnalia and Vestalia. These were originally celebrated in honor of Mars, a god of war.
Roman workweeks lasted eight days. There were two periods to every day: morning and afternoon. Nundin was an 8-day collection, with the rest of the year comprised of 29 days.
