But, Presidents’ Day is now widely recognized as a day to honor all U.S. Presidents, especially Lincoln.

The origins of the Presidents’ Day holiday is a bit tangled. Washington’s Birthday was the original title of the holiday. Today, it is Presidents’ Day.

An unofficial holiday that is well-known was the birthday of Washington, which is often referred to as Washington’s Day. In the 1870s, it was made a federal holiday. Congress passed the Uniform Monday Day Holiday Act.

Meteor storms

Roman holidays from antiquity

The Lupercalia celebration was very loved in ancient Rome. In the middle of February, a fertility and cleansing ceremony was celebrated. Priests offered animal sacrifices close to the altar of Lapis Negiger during this ritual. The hearth was saturated with the blood of the animal. It was believed that it would benefit the grains by ensuring their fertility and protecting the plants from harm.

Ludi Ceriales is another celebration that was held in honor Ceres the harvest goddess. Ludi Ceriales celebrations are documented as far back as the year 202 BC.

Vestalia, Saturnalia, and Neptunalia were three other well-known Roman celebrations. These celebrations were initially intended to honor Mars the god of War.

Roman workweeks lasted eight days. There were two periods of each day: the morning and afternoon. The nundin was a collection of eight days. the remaining 29 days comprised the rest of the year.
