February 14th
Valentine’s Day is an annual holiday that is a celebration of love, affection and celebration on February 14th. The celebration’s origins can be traced back to the Middle Ages, a time where courtly love and sacraments were all the rage.
It was seen as a celebration that celebrated romance between romantic partners and friends in the 14th century. It was customary to give Valentine’s Day flowers, cards and gifts to one another.
In the early 19th century commercial cards became easily available. Additionally, postcards produced in large quantities gained a lot of popularity. These postcards were displayed in stores as displays with themes.
Valentine’s Day is traditionally marked by gifting your loved ones the gift of chocolate or candy, along with a card or flower. You might even choose to give them jewelry.
February 2nd.
Groundhog Day occurs annually on February 2. While it is also a popular holiday in Canada The Thanksgiving holiday is an American holiday celebrated in America.
The idea for this celebration came from a superstition that originated among Pennsylvanians who were Dutch. German immigrants introduced the practice of making weather predictions into the United States. Punxsutawney Philip, one of the Pennsylvania groundhog, gives meteorological forecasts throughout the rest of winter.
The tradition was born when scientists discovered mice that hibernate in the winter. The idea was to forecast the weather patterns for the remaining six weeks by watching how animals react to it.
Groundhogs are part of Sciuridae which is a small group of mammals with hairy fur. They hibernate during winter. On Groundhog Day, they are often seen peeking out of the burrows.
Christmas Day
Presidents’ Daylight is regarded as an American holiday that falls on the third Monday of February. It is a celebration of the presidents who have gone before us. Presidents’ Day has traditionally served as a day to pay tribute to both Washington and Lincoln.
Although it is a federal holiday but not every state observes the holiday in all states. While some states celebrate both presidents birthdays on the exact same day as others however, some states only recognize only one. Presidents Day has become an occasion to celebrate all U.S. presidents, including Lincoln.
There’s a rich history of Presidents Day. Washington’s Birthday was the first title of the celebration.
Washington’s birthday also known as Washington’s Day is a well-known non-official holiday. It became an official federal holiday in the late 1870s. Congress approved the Uniform Monday holiday Act.
Meteor storms
Every year it is the time when the Earth is in orbit around the sun, creating an explosion of tiny meteors to fall into space. They can be seen everywhere in the sky. Certain showers are more impressive than others. The best time of day to observe.
The Perseids meteor shower is among the most stunning and largest of all meteor showers. It is because of Comet 109P/Swift Tuttle. It will be seen from the Northern Hemisphere, but as the Southern Hemisphere has some of the highest fireball rates and astrophysical activity, it’s also worth to observe from there.
There are four meteor showers that dominate the sky every year. The Quadrantid one is well-known for its explosive but short peak. Another is the Lyrid. It is famous for its odd surges. Furthermore, the Geminid is renowned for its sexy appearance.
Roman holidays from antiquity
The Lupercalia was one of the most well-liked holidays in the past of Rome. A ritual of cleansing and fertility was held in mid February. Priests offered sacrifices of animals near the altar of Lapis Negiger during the ceremony. The hearth was then emptied of the blood of the animal. It was thought that the hearth would offer fertility and protection for the grain fields.
Ludi Ceriales, another celebration, was celebrated in honor of Ceres the goddess of harvest. Ludi Ceriales celebrations were first recorded in the year 202 BC.
Neptunalia and Saturnalia were among the other popular Roman celebrations. These celebrations were initially intended to pay tribute to Mars the god of War.
Roman workweeks were eight days long. There were two parts to every day: the morning and afternoon. The nundin was a collection of eight days. the other 29 days comprised the rest of the year.
