But, Presidents’ Day is now widely recognized as a means of honoring all U.S. Presidents, especially Lincoln.

Meteors and storms

Roman holiday celebrations in antiquity

The Lupercalia was a Roman festival, which was loved by many. In February, a fertility-cleansing ceremony was conducted. In this ceremony it was a time when priests offered sacrifices to animals on the altar next to the Lapis Naiger. The animal’s blood was dumped into the hearth. The fertility and protection of the blood is believed to have been beneficial to the grain fields.

Ludi Ceriales was another celebration to pay tribute to Ceres (the harvest goddess). Since the year 202 BC, Ludi Ceriales celebrations have been recorded.

Neptunalia and Saturnalia were two other well-known Roman celebrations. These celebrations were originally held to honor Mars the god of war.

Roman working weeks lasted for eight days. There were two periods of every day: morning and afternoon. Nundin was a collection consisting of eight days. The remaining 29 days made up the remainder of the calendar year.
