The idea for this custom was born from a discovery by scientists that a mouse hibernated during winter. The idea was to predict the next six weeks of the season using observations about how the animals responded.
Groundhogs are part of the Sciuridae tribe of small, hairy mammals. It hibernates in winter. Groundhog Day is the most regular day they can be seen looking out of their burrows.

Presidents Daylight (third Monday in February) is a holiday that is celebrated across the nation. It is a day to honor previous American presidents. Presidents’ Day has historically been a time to pay tribute to both Washington and Lincoln.
Although it’s a federal holiday several states do not observe it. Some states honor the birthdays of both presidents on the same day, while others only honor one. Presidents Day has become an occasion to celebrate the all U.S. presidents, including Lincoln.
The history of Presidents’ Day is a bit tangled. Washington’s Birthday was the first reason for the title of the celebration.
Washington’s Birthday, also known as Washington’s Day, is an not a holiday recognized by the government but is widely known. It was declared a federal holiday by Congress in the 1870s. In the aftermath, Congress passed Uniform Monday Holiday Law.
Meteor showers
Every year, the Earth revolves around the sun. This causes a flood of tiny meteors which are released into space. They are visible in the sky and can appear everywhere. Some showers can be more spectacular than others. It is generally the nighttime time to view.

Roman holiday celebrations in antiquity
The Lupercalia was an ancient Roman holiday that was loved by many. The month of February was when a fertility cleansing ceremony was performed. Priests offered sacrifices of animals at the altar to the Lapis Nuiger at the time of the ceremony. The hearth was stuffed with blood of the animal. It was believed to be beneficial for the fertility and protection of the grain fields.
Ludi Ceriales was another celebration to honor Ceres the goddess of harvest. Since the year 202 BC, Ludi Ceriales celebrations were recorded.
Neptunalia was among the most well-known Roman festivities. These celebrations were originally held to honor Mars, a god of war.
The Roman week was eight days long. Each day consisted of two parts: morning or the afternoon. The nundin lasted eight days. The remainder of the year was comprised by the remaining 29 days.
