There are many holidays that are celebrated in February, including Valentine’s Day (President), Groundhog Day (Groundhog Day), and meteor showers (Mesotor Showers). Numerous older Roman celebrations also take place on different days.
February 14th
Valentine’s Day, a day that is a celebration of love and passion, is observed each year on the 14th of February. It can be traced to as early as the Middle Ages, when love was more prevalent than sacramental and courtly.
It was thought to be a celebration of romance between romantically connected friends from the fourteenth-century. On Valentine’s Day, it was customary to send flowers, cards and other gifts to one another.
In the early 19th century commercial cards had already been made. Popularity also grew for bulk-printed postcards. These cards were then displayed in stores in themed displays.
Valentine’s Day is traditionally marked by gifting your loved ones an item of candy or chocolate and flowers or a card. It is also possible to give them jewelry.
February 2nd.
Groundhog Day falls on February 2. Even though it’s a big deal in Canada the Thanksgiving holiday is an American holiday.
The belief in the superstition of Pennsylvanians Dutch people contributed to the festival. However, the practice of making weather predictions originated in the United States with German immigration. Punxsutawney Phil Groundhog, a groundhog from Pennsylvania is a meteorological forecaster for the rest of the winter.
The practice was first introduced after scientists discovered a mouse that hibernated in the winter. It was designed to predict the coming six weeks by studying the way animals react to weather conditions.
Groundhogs are part of the Sciuridae family of tiny, hairy mammals. In winter, their main function is to hibernate. In the early morning hours of Groundhog Day, they are often seen peeking out from their burrows.
Christmas Day
On the third Monday of February the President’s Daylight is declared a national holiday. The holiday honors the previous American presidents. It is a day to honour both Lincoln and Washington.
Although it’s a federal holiday however, many states do not observe it. Certain states honor both presidents, while other states are limited to only one. The Presidents Day is now a day to honor the all U.S. presidents, including Lincoln.
The story of the Presidents’ Day holiday is a bit tangled. Washington’s Birthday was the first name of the event. It is now Presidents Day.
Washington’s birthday is an incredibly well-known and not officially recognized holiday, as well as Washington’s Day. In the latter half of 1870s it became a national holiday. This led to Congress adopted the Uniform Monday Holiday Act.
Meteor storms

Roman holiday celebrations in antiquity
The Lupercalia is one of the most celebrated holidays in the ancient city of Rome. In the middle of February there was a cleansing and fertility ceremony was conducted. Priests offered sacrifices of animals at the altar for the Lapis Nuiger at the time of the ceremony. Blood from the animal was poured in the hearth. It was thought that the hearth would provide fertile soil and protect the fields of grain.
