Groundhog Day, Valentine’s Day and meteor showers. Many old Roman celebrations also take place on various dates.
February 14th
Valentine’s Day celebrates love and love every February 14. The origins of the holiday can be traced to the Middle Ages, a time where courtly love and sacraments were commonplace.
It was thought to be an occasion to celebrate love between romantically involved acquaintances from the 14th century. Valentine’s Day was the day to give each other gifts, flowers and cards.
Commercial cards were made available in the first quarter of the nineteenth century. Postcards that were printed in bulk became popular. These postcards were also sought-after in shops because they were able to be displayed with themes.
Valentine’s Day is traditionally marked by gifting your loved ones an item of candy or chocolate along with an arrangement or card. It is possible to also give jewelry.

Groundhog Day occurs annually on February 2. It is also celebrated in Canada but it is American Thanksgiving.

Groundhogs belong to the Sciuridae, a small family of mammals that have hair. It hibernates during winter. In the early morning hours of Groundhog Day, they are frequently spotted peering out of their burrows.
Christmas Day
The third Monday of February is known as Presidents’ Daylight. It is considered a national holiday. It is a day to honor previous American presidents. In the past, Presidents Day has been a time of honor for both Lincoln and Washington.
While it’s an annual holiday of the United States, many states don’t observe it. Some states honor the birthdays of both presidents at the same time, while others only honor only one. The Presidents’ Day holiday is widely recognized as an opportunity to recognize the achievements of all U.S. presidentials, particularly Lincoln.
There is a long and complicated story behind Presidents Day. Washington’s Birthday was the first reason for the name of this celebration.
Washington’s birthday, often referred to as Washington’s Day was a well-known nonofficial holiday. It was made a federal holiday in late 1870s. The Uniform Monday Holiday Act was passed by Congress.
Meteor showers
Each year each year, the Earth revolves around the sun. This results in a flood of tiny meteors to be released into space. They are visible almost everywhere in the sky. Some showers are more impressive then others. Nighttime is typically the best moment to observe.
Perseids are the most spectacular and stunning meteor showers of the year. It is likely that the Comet 109P/Swift Tuttle is the cause. It is seen from the Northern Hemisphere, but as the Southern Hemisphere has some of the most intense fireballs and astrophysical activity, it’s also worth to look up from there.
There are four meteor showers that dominate the sky each year. The Quadrantid is the most prominent because of its powerful but brief peak. One of the most notable for its distinctive surges is The Lyrid. The Geminid is also well-known for its friendly appearance.
Roman holidays from antiquity
The Lupercalia is one of the most celebrated holidays in the ancient city of Rome. A fertility and cleansing ceremony was held in mid February. Priests offered animal sacrifices at the altar for the Lapis Nuiger at the time of the ceremony. The animal’s blood was dumped in the hearth. The belief was that this would benefit grains by ensuring their fertility and protecting them.
Ludi Ceriales, another celebration, was celebrated in honor of Ceres, the harvest goddess. Ludi Ceriales celebrations date back to 202 BC.
Neptunalia was among the most well-known Roman celebrations. These celebrations were originally held in honor of Mars the god of war.
Roman workweeks were 8 days long. There were two parts to every day: the morning and the afternoon. The nundin was a collection of eight days, and the remaining 29 days comprised the rest of the year.
