The tradition was born when scientists found a mouse that hibernated during winter. It was designed to predict the next six weeks by studying the way animals react to the weather.
Groundhogs belong to the Sciuridae group of small hairy mammals. In winter, their principal goal is to go into hibernation. Groundhog Day is a common day on which they are seen peering out from their burrows.
Christmas Day
Presidents Daylight (third Monday in February) is a federal holiday. It is an honor to all past American presidents. It is a holiday that honors both Lincoln, Washington, and it has been Presidents Since the day it was first introduced.
Although it’s an official holiday, not every state observes this holiday. Certain states celebrate the birthdays of both presidents on the same day, while other states only recognize one.
