Groundhog Day occurs annually on February 2. Even though it’s a big deal in Canada, Thanksgiving is a American holiday.
The celebration originated from superstition from Pennsylvanians and Dutch people. The Americans, however, inherited the custom of making weather predictions through German immigrants. Punxsutawney Phil, a groundhog from Pennsylvania, makes meteorological predictions for the remainder of winter.
The whole thing began when scientists found an animal that was hibernating during the winter. The goal was to predict the coming six weeks of the season by observing how the animals responded.
Groundhogs belong to the Sciuridae which is a tiny family of mammals that have hair. In the winter months, their main goal is to hibernate. Groundhog Day mornings are a great time to spot the animals peering out of their burrows.
Christmas Day
Presidents’ Daylight is regarded as a national holiday on the third Monday in February. It is a day to pay tribute to the past American presidents. The Presidents Day holiday served as a day to honor both Lincoln and Washington.
It’s a national holiday which not all states observe despite being one. Certain states honor both presidents simultaneously, whereas other states only honor one. Presidents’ Day, however, is now generally celebrated as a time to recognize the achievements of all U.S. presidents, especially Lincoln.
The history of Presidents’ Day is complicated. Washington’s Birthday was the first reason for the title of the celebration.
Washington’s birthday also known by the title Washington’s Day was a well-known not-official holiday. It became an official holiday of the United States in the late 1870s. In the aftermath, Congress passed Uniform Monday Holiday Law.
Meteors hurling storms
Every year, the Earth crosses its orbit around the sun, which causes tiny meteors to fall into space. They are visible in the sky and are everywhere. Certain showers are more stunning than others. It is usually ideal to see the showers in the evening.

Roman holidays in antiquity
The Lupercalia was among the most well-liked holidays in ancient Rome. A ritual of cleansing and fertility were held in the middle February. At this time the priests offered sacrifices of animals on the altar next to the Lapis Naiger. The hearth was then emptied of the blood of the animal. The protection and fertility of the blood was believed to have been beneficial to the grain field.
Ludi Ceriales, another celebration was dedicated to Ceres. Since 202 BC, Ludi Ceriales celebrations were recorded.
Other famous Roman celebrations include Neptunalia, Saturnalia and Vestalia. These were originally celebrated to honor Mars the god of war.
The Roman workweek was eight days long. Every day was divided into two parts: the morning or the afternoon. Nundin was a collection consisting of 8 days. The remaining 29 days comprised the rest of the calendar year.
