Roman holidays in antiquity
The Lupercalia holiday was very loved in ancient Rome. A ritual of cleansing and fertility was held in February. During the ceremony, priests offered animal sacrifices on an altar in front of the Lapis Niiger. The hearth was filled with blood of the animal. The fertility and protection of blood is believed to be beneficial to the grain field.
Ludi Ceriales was another celebration to celebrate Ceres (the goddess of the harvest). Ludi Ceriales celebrations date back to 202 BC.
Neptunalia and Saturnalia were some other well-known Roman festivals. These were originally held to honor Mars god of war.Vestalia, according to some academics, was the most well-liked of the three.
Roman working weeks were eight days long. Each day consisted of two parts: the morning and afternoon. A nundin was a collection consisting of 8 days. The remaining 29 days made up the rest of the calendar year.
