Groundhogs make up the Sciuridae group of tiny, hairy mammals. They hibernate in winter. Groundhog Day’s morning is when they can be seen peeking out of the burrows.

Roman holidays from antiquity
The Lupercalia festival was extremely popular in ancient Rome. A ritual of cleansing and fertility were held in the middle February. The priests offered animal sacrifices on an altar in front of the Lapis Niiger. The hearth was saturated with the animal’s blood. It was believed that it would be beneficial to the grain crops by ensuring fertility and securing the crops from damage.
Ludi Ceriales was another celebration to honor Ceres the goddess of harvest. Ludi Ceriales celebrations are documented from the year 202 BC.
Other well-known Roman celebrations include Neptunalia, Saturnalia and Vestalia. These celebrations were originally meant to pay tribute to Mars the god of war.
Roman working weeks were eight days long. Every day consisted of two sections: morning and afternoon. A nundin was 8 days long, and the remaining 29 days were called the rest of the days.
