February 14th
Valentine’s Day is a day that is devoted to love and romance which is celebrated every the 14th of February every year. The Middle Ages are the time when Valentine’s Day first celebrated. This was the time when courtly love as well as the sacraments still were commonplace.
It was believed to be a celebration of friendship between romantically engaged acquaintances from the 14th century. It was commonplace to send Valentine’s Day flowers, cards and other gifts to one another.
In the beginning of the 19th century commercial cards were readily available. Postcards printed in bulk also received a lot of attention. Themed displays of these postcards were displayed in shops.
Valentine’s Day traditions include buying your loved one a sweet or chocolate gift along with a bouquet of flowers or a card. You could also choose to present them with jewelry.
February 2nd.
Groundhog Day is celebrated annually on February 2. It’s also popular in Canada but it is American Thanksgiving.
The tradition was conceived of as a superstition in the minds of Pennsylvanians Dutch immigrants. The tradition of forecasting weather was introduced in America through German immigrants. PunxsutawneyPhil is a Pennsylvania groundhog, makes meteorological predictions throughout the winter.
After scientists found out that mice hibernate in winter, they set the stage for this habit. The plan was to forecast the following six weeks of the season by studying how animals responded to the weather.
Groundhogs are part of the Sciuridae, a small family of mammals with hairy fur. They hibernate throughout winter. Groundhog Day is the most frequent day that they are seen looking out of their burrows.
Christmas Day
On the third Monday of February, President’s Daylight is declared a national holiday. It is a tribute to the previous presidents of America. It has been a day to honour both Lincoln and Washington.
While it’s an annual holiday of the United States, several states do not observe it. Certain states honor both presidents, whereas others are only allowed to recognize one. The Presidents’ Day holiday is widely recognized as a day to honor the achievements of all U.S. presidentials, particularly Lincoln.
There’s a rich history of Presidents Day. The Washington’s Birthday was the first name of the celebration and is now known as Presidents’ Day.
Washington’s birthday also called Washington’s Day is a well-known unofficial holiday. In the latter half of 1870s it was made a federal holiday. The Uniform Monday Holiday Act was passed by Congress.
Meteors and storms
Every year, Earth moves around the sun. Each year, small meteors fall into space. They are visible in the sky and are all over the sky. Some showers are more stunning then others. It is usually the nighttime time for watching.
Perseids are one of the most stunning and impressive meteor showers that occur throughout the entire year. This is because Comet 109P/Swift Tuttle was the primary cause. It will be visible from the Northern Hemisphere, but as the Southern Hemisphere has some of the highest fireball rates, it is also worthwhile to look up from there.
There are four major meteor Showers every year. One of the most well-known meteor showers is the Quadrantid. This one is famous for its small but extremely powerful peak. Another well-known for its odd spikes is the Lyrid. In addition the Geminid is famous for its attractive appearance.
Roman holiday celebrations in antiquity
The Lupercalia is among the most popular holidays in the ancient city of Rome. A fertility and cleansing ceremony was held in February. In this ceremony it was a time when priests offered sacrifices to animals on the altar alongside the Lapis Naiger. The hearth was filled with the blood of the animal. The fields of grain were believed to be protected and fertility.
Ludi Ceriales was another celebration to honor Ceres the goddess of harvest. Ludi Ceriales celebrations can be traced back to the year 202 BC.
Neptunalia was one of the other well-known Roman celebrations. The celebrations were initially planned to pay tribute to Mars as the god of war.
Roman working weeks were eight days long. Every day was divided into two parts: morning or afternoon. A nundin consisted of eight days. The remainder of the year was made up by the remaining days.
