The celebration originated from the belief in superstition of Pennsylvanians and Dutch people. German immigrants brought the tradition of weather forecasts into the United States. Punxsutawney Phil is a Pennsylvania groundhog who gives forecasts for the rest of winter.
When researchers discovered that mice hibernated in winter, they set the foundation for this custom. The initial idea was to predict the duration of each season by studying how animals responded to the weather.
Groundhogs are part of Sciuridae, a small family of hairy mammals. During the winter, its primary purpose is to hibernate. Groundhog Day is a common time when they can be looking out from their burrows.

The third Monday of February President’s Daylight is declared an official holiday of the United States. It pays tribute to past American presidents. The Presidents’ Day was traditionally a day to honor Lincoln and Washington.
It’s a federal holiday that is not observed by all states despite being one. Some states honor the birthdays of both presidents at the same time, but other states only recognize only one president. The Presidents Day is now an occasion to celebrate the all U.S. presidents, including Lincoln.

Storms of Meteors
Each year, the Earth’s orbit revolves around the sun. A stream of tiny meteors are released into space. On the horizon, they are everywhere. Certain showers are more spectacular than others. The best time to view them is at night.
One of the biggest and most spectacular meteor showers in the world is the Perseids. This is because Comet 109P/SwiftTuttle is the culprit. It is visible from the Northern Hemisphere. But, considering that the Southern Hemisphere is home to some of the most impressive fireballs, it makes sense to observe the phenomenon from there.
There are four major meteor showers every year. Number one is the Quadrantid. Its short but strong peak is the one that is most famous. One of the most notable for its distinctive surges is the Lyrid. Furthermore the Geminid is known for its attractive appearance.
Roman holiday celebrations in antiquity
The Lupercalia holiday was very popular in ancient Rome. The cleansing and fertility ceremony was held in the middle of February. Priests offered sacrifices to animals at an altar close to the Lapis Niger during the ritual. The hearth was filled with blood of the animal. The belief was that it would be beneficial for fertility and protection of the fields of grain.
Ludi Ceriales, another celebration was dedicated to Ceres. Since the year 202 BC, Ludi Ceriales celebrations have been recorded.
Vestalia, Saturnalia, and Neptunalia were a few other famous Roman celebrations. These were originally held to honor Mars god of war.Vestalia, according to some experts, was the most well-liked of the three.
Roman workweeks lasted eight days. There were two portions to every day: the morning and afternoon. A nundin was a collection of eight days, and the other 29 days made up the rest of the year.
