The story began when scientists discovered a mouse that hibernated throughout the winter. The initial idea was to predict six weeks of each season by studying how animals reacted to the climate.
Groundhogs make up the Sciuridae tribe of small, hairy mammals. In winter, their primary objective is to go into hibernation. Groundhog Day is the most frequent day that they are seen looking out of their burrows.
