April 2023 – March 2023 Calendar – Many enjoyable holidays are planned for February, and they are observed throughout the month. February 14th
Valentine’s Day (February 14th) is a day to celebrate the love and passion of a person. It is celebrated every year. The Middle Ages were a time when love was commonplace and the sacraments were more popular.
It was a celebration of romantic love during the 14th century. Valentine’s Day was the day to give each other gifts, flowers and cards.
By the beginning of the 19th century commercial cards had already been created. Also, the demand for postcards printed in bulk. They were popular in retail stores as displays with themes.
Gifting your special someone a chocolate or candy present and flowers or a card is a classic Valentine’s Day tradition. You could also choose to gift them with jewelry.
February 2nd.
Groundhog Day falls on February 2. However, it is also popular in Canada, Thanksgiving is an American holiday.
The tradition was born out of beliefs that were derived from Pennsylvanians as well as Dutch people. The tradition of forecasting weather was introduced to America through German immigrants. PunxsutawneyPhil is a Pennsylvania groundhog who makes forecasts for winter weather throughout the year.
This custom originated from an observation by scientists that a mouse hibernated in winter. The initial plan was to predict the duration of the seasons by observing how animals responded to the weather.
Groundhogs belong to the Sciuridae family of tiny, hairy mammals. It hibernates throughout the winter months. Groundhog Day mornings are a perfect time to see them peering from their burrows.
Christmas Day
Presidents Daylight (third Monday in February) is a national holiday. It is an honor to all past American presidents. It is a day which celebrates the two presidents, Lincoln, Washington, and has been Presidents’ Day since its inception.
Although it is a federal holiday, not all states observe it. Some states honor the birthdays of both presidents at the same time, while some states only recognize only one. Although Presidents’ day is now common however, it is a good opportunity to honor all U.S. presidents and especially Lincoln.
There is a long and complicated story of Presidents Day. The Washington’s Birthday was the first name of the holiday. Today the Presidents’ Day holiday is the official title.
Washington’s birthday, more commonly known as Washington’s Day is a well-known unofficial holiday. In the 1870s, however, it became an official holiday recognized by the federal government. The Uniform Monday Holiday Act was enacted by Congress.
Meteor storms
Every year, Earth rotates around its sun. Small meteors are released into the atmosphere. In the sky, they can be seen all over the sky. Some showers appear more impressive than others. It is at night that is the most ideal time of day to observe.
Perseids are among the most beautiful and powerful meteor shower of the year. This is due to the fact that Comet 109P/Swift Tuttle is responsible for. It will be visible only in the Northern Hemisphere. However, because the Southern Hemisphere has the highest fireball rates, it’s worth taking a look from that.
There are four major meteor showers every year. The Quadrantid, number one, is known for its brief but powerful maximum. The Lyrid also is known for its distinctive surges. The Geminid is also known for its approachable appearance.
Roman holidays in antiquity
The Lupercalia was one of the most loved holidays in the past of Rome. A fertility and cleansing ceremony was held in mid February. During this rite it was a time when priests offered sacrifices to animals on an altar beside the Lapis Naiger. The hearth was emptied of the animal’s blood. The protection and fertility of the blood was believed to have been beneficial to the grain fields.
Ludi Ceriales is another celebration which was celebrated to honor Ceres the harvest goddess. Ludi Ceriales celebrations are documented from 202 BC.
Other popular Roman festivities include Neptunalia, Saturnalia and Vestalia. These celebrations were originally held to honor Mars the god of war.
Roman workweeks were eight days long. There were two periods of each day: the morning and the afternoon. A nundin consisted of 8 days. The rest of the year was made up by the remaining days.
