Roman holidays from antiquity

The Lupercalia was a popular festival in ancient Rome. In the middle of February the fertility and cleansing ceremony was conducted. During the ceremony, priests offered animal sacrifices on an altar near the Lapis Niiger. Blood from the animal was poured in the hearth. Neptunalia, Saturnalia, Vestalia were only a few of the well-known Roman celebrations. The celebrations were initially planned to pay tribute to Mars as the god of war.

Roman workweeks lasted eight days. Each day had two parts: morning or afternoon. Nundin was a collection that comprised of 8 days. The remaining 29 days comprised the rest of the calendar year.
