Norwalk Marching Band Calendar – There are many celebrations for holidays which take place during February. Examples of these holidays include Valentine’s Day or Groundhog Day Presidents’ Day, Groundhog Day or meteor showers. Numerous Roman celebrations also take place on different days.
February 14th
Valentine’s Day is an annual holiday that celebrates love, passion and is observed on February 14th. The Middle Ages were a time when love was commonplace , and ceremonies were more widespread.
It was considered a celebration that honored romance between romantic partners and close friends in the 14th-century. Valentine’s Day was the day to exchange gifts, flowers, and cards.
By the beginning of the 19th century commercial cards had already been created. The popularity of these cards grew due to the increasing demand of postcards printed in large quantities. These cards were also sought-after in shops because they could be displayed in themes.
Valentine’s Day is traditionally marked by giving your loved ones an item of candy or chocolate along with a card or flower. You may also choose to give them jewelry.

This celebration was born from superstition in the minds of Pennsylvanians Dutch-speaking people. However, the practice of making weather predictions was introduced to the United States with German immigration. Scientists discovered that a mouse went into hibernation during winter. The goal was to forecast the weather conditions for the six remaining weeks by observing how animals respond to it.
The Sciuridae family of small hairy mammals also includes groundhogs. During the winter, its principal objective is to go into hibernation. Groundhog Day is the most common day they can be seen looking out of their burrows.
Christmas Day
The third Monday in February is known as Presidents’ Daylight. It is recognized as a national holiday. It’s an honor to all former American presidents. The Presidents’ Day was typically a day of celebration to honor Lincoln and Washington.
While it’s an annual holiday of the United States, several states do not observe it. Certain states celebrate the birthdays of both presidents at the same time, while others only honor only one president. However, Presidents’ Day is now widely recognized as a day to honor the achievements of all U.S. Presidents, especially Lincoln.
It has had a complicated background. Washington’s Birthday was the first reason for the name of this celebration.
The most well-known holiday in the United States was the birthday of President Washington, also referred to as Washington’s Day. However, it was recognized as a federal holiday in the late 1870s. Congress approved the Uniform Monday holiday Act.
Meteors hurling storms
Each year, Earth rotates around its sun. Small meteors are released into the atmosphere. They can appear everywhere. Certain showers are more spectacular than others. Nighttime is the best time to watch.
The Perseids meteor shower is among the most stunning and biggest of the meteor showers. This is because Comet 109P/Swift Tuttle caused it. It is visible from the Northern Hemisphere. But, since the Southern Hemisphere is home to some of the most impressive fireballs, it makes sense to look at the phenomenon from the Southern Hemisphere.
Every year, there are four significant meteor showers. The Quadrantid is number one due to its power but brief peak. The Lyrid also is famous for its unique surges. The Geminid is also well-known for its warm appearance.
Roman holidays in antiquity
The Lupercalia was a Roman festival that was adored by many. A fertility and cleansing ceremony was held in February, in the middle. Priests offered animal sacrifices near the altar of the Lapis Negiger during this ritual. The hearth was cleansed of blood from the animal. The protection and fertility of the blood was believed to be beneficial to the grain fields.
Ludi Ceriales is another celebration that was held in honor Ceres the goddess of harvest. Ludi Ceriales celebrations are documented from 202 BC.
Other well-known Roman festivities include Neptunalia, Saturnalia and Vestalia. They were celebrated originally to honor Mars, a god of war.
Roman workweeks were eight days long. Each day consisted of two parts: morning and afternoon. A nundin was a collection of eight days. the other 29 days comprised the rest of the year.
