This celebration was born from a belief system that was popular among Pennsylvanians speaking Dutch. The American tradition of creating weather forecasts was brought to America with German immigrants. Punxsutawney Phil Groundhog, a groundhog from Pennsylvania, makes meteorological predictions for the rest of the winter.
The practice was first introduced when scientists found mice that hibernate during winter. The initial plan was to predict six weeks of the seasons by watching how animals responded to the conditions.
The Sciuridae family of small hairy mammals includes groundhogs. It is hibernates in winter. Groundhog Day’s morning and evening, they’re often visible peeking out of burrows.

Presidents Daylight (third Monday in February) is a federal holiday. It is a celebration of the presidents who have gone before us. Presidents’ Day has historically been a day to celebrate both Washington and Lincoln.

Washington’s Birthday, also known as Washington’s Day, is an non-official holiday, but it is well-known. It was made a federal holiday in late 1870s. Congress passed the Uniform Monday Day Holiday Act.
Meteors and storms

Roman holidays from antiquity
The Lupercalia was an ancient Roman holiday that was loved by many. The month of February was when a fertility cleansing ceremony was conducted. At this time it was a time when priests offered sacrifices to animals on the altar alongside the Lapis Naiger. Blood from the animal was poured in the hearth. The belief was that it would be beneficial for the fertility of the fields of grain.
Ludi Ceriales was another celebration to celebrate Ceres (the harvest goddess). Since 202 BC, Ludi Ceriales celebrations have been recorded.
Vestalia, Saturnalia, and Neptunalia were three other popular Roman celebrations. These were originally held to honour Mars god of war.Vestalia, according to some experts is the most popular among the three.
Roman workweeks lasted eight days. There were two periods to every day: morning and afternoon. A nundin was 8 days long, and the 29 remaining days were the rest of the days.
