The tradition was born when scientists found an animal that was hibernating in the winter. The plan was to forecast the next six weeks of the season by watching how animals responded to the weather.

Groundhogs are part of the Sciuridae family of small hairy mammals. They hibernate during the winter months. On Groundhog Day is when they can be observed peeking out of burrows.

Christmas Day

Presidents Daylight, which falls on the third Monday of February, is considered to be to be a national holiday. It pays tribute to past American presidents. In the past, Presidents Day been a time of celebration for both Lincoln and Washington.

While it is a federal holiday however, many states do not observe it. Although some states honor both presidents birthdays on the same day while other states only honor only one. While Presidents’ Day is now common this holiday allows us to honor the names of all U.S. presidents and especially Lincoln.

The history of Presidents’ Day is complicated. Washington’s Birthday is the original title of the celebration.

Washington’s birthday, also known as Washington’s Day is a well-known unofficial holiday. However, it was recognized as a national holiday in the late 1870s. The Uniform Monday Holiday Act was approved by Congress.

Meteor storms

Each year, Earth rotates around its sun. Small meteors are released into the atmosphere. They appear virtually everywhere in the skies. Some showers appear more impressive in comparison to others. Nighttime is the best moment to see them.

Four significant meteor showers occur each year. One of the most famous meteor showers is the Quadrantid. It is known for its short but extremely strong peak. The other is the Lyrid, which is known for its unique surges. In addition the Geminid is renowned for its attractive appearance.

Roman holidays in antiquity

The Lupercalia was an ancient Roman holiday that was loved by many. A fertility and cleansing ceremony were held in the middle February. Priests offered animal sacrifices near the altar of the Lapis Negiger during the ceremony. The hearth was saturated with blood of the animal. It was believed that it would benefit crop by increasing fertility and protecting them.

Ludi Ceriales was another celebration to honor Ceres, the harvest goddess. Ludi Ceriales celebrations can be traced back to 202 BC.

Vestalia, Saturnalia, and Neptunalia were a few other well-known Roman celebrations. The celebrations were initially planned to celebrate Mars as the god of war.

The Roman week was eight days long. There were two periods of each day: morning and afternoon. Nundin was a collection of 8 days. The remaining 29 days were the rest of the calendar year.
