Groundhog Day is observed annually on February 2. It’s also popular in Canada but it is American Thanksgiving.
The celebration originated from a belief system among Pennsylvanians Dutch immigrants. German immigrants brought the practice of making weather predictions into the United States. PunxsutawneyPhil, a Pennsylvania groundhog that makes meteorological predictions throughout the winter.
Scientists discovered that a mouse went into hibernation in winter. The idea was to forecast the coming six weeks by studying the way animals react to weather conditions.
The Sciuridae family of tiny hairy mammals includes groundhogs. In the winter months, their main objective is to hibernate. Groundhog Day is the most common day they can be in view from their burrows.
Christmas Day
The third Monday of February is known as Presidents’ Daylight. It is an official holiday for the United States of America. The holiday honors the previous American presidents. In the past, Presidents Day served as a day of celebration for both Lincoln and Washington.
It is a federal holiday which not all states observe despite being one. Certain states celebrate the birthdays of both presidents at the same time, while other states only recognize one. While Presidents’ Day is now a common thing, it allows us to commemorate the names of all U.S. presidents and especially Lincoln.
